Catherine crowned Miss Tacloban 2003

           TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Philippines    -    It was candidate no. 2 who was crowned as Miss Tacloban 2003 during the pageant night on June 7, 2003 at the Human Resource Development Center (HRDC), Leyte Normal University, Tacloban City.

             Katherine Casaus Canario, this year Miss Tacloban is a 19-year old beautiful lady from V&G subdivision and was the tallest among the candidates at 5’7” in height.  She was born on August 22, 1983 to the couple Lobriguito Canario (deceased) and Basilisa Casaus.

             Aside from winning the crown, she was also chosen as the Best in Festival Costume and Best Speaker.  A 22-inch glass trophy and a P50,000.00 cash prize was awarded to her, plus a brand new ZongShen motorcycle unit and a free trip to Panglao Island Resort in Bohol on a 3 days and 2 nights accommodation for 2 persons.

             The city’s chief executive Mayor Alfredo Romualdez who witnessed the pageant, cowned Miss Canario.

             19-year old candidate no. 5, Miss Gennie Santizo Lagbas who was the crowd’s favorite was adjudged 1st Runner Up.  She received a glass trophy and a cash award of P30,000.00.  She garnered five (5) other minor awards as Best in Swimsuit, Best in Casual Wear, Best in Evening Gown, Miss Photogenic and the Texter's Choice award which entitled her for a brand new cellphone unit courtesy of Smart Communications.

             The youngest, 17-year old candidate no. 6,  Miss Ma. Leslie Balbuena Montaño was 2nd Runner-up and received a cash award of P20,000.00.  She also won the Miss Professionalism award.

             Other candidates who won some special awards were Miss May Ann Labajanan Delis (candidate no. 3) for Best in Talent and Miss Sheryll May Garces Siao (candidate no. 7) for Miss Congeneality and Miss Cellcom awards.  Miss Garces received a brand new cellphone unit from Cellcom Communications.

             Marco Borromeo and Kristine Pfiefer who were both models from Cebu City were the hosts of the night.

             The 5-member board of judges were all non-residents of the region and were composed of former Ambassador Antonio Villamor as the chairman; Atty. Roy Alexander; Gemma Ouano, a socialite and owner of TU Realty from Cebu City; Charity Lagahid, a model and the Philippines representative to France of Teen Modeling 2003; and Dino Lloren, a designer from Cebu City.

             All the candidates have received a gift pack from Avon Cosmetics and Cielo’s Secret who were sponsors of the event.
