Tornado hit Dulag town in Leyte

GASPAY TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte - A tornado hit the coastal town of Dulag, Leyte some 38 kms. south of Tacloban City in central Philippines on Wednesday morning, June 9, while at the height of typhoon 'Gener' destroying some 150 houses while 750 other houses obtained severe damages, crops and several infrastructures valued at P45M in total damages. Residents of the area were surprised of the sudden strong winds which toppled some trees, telephone and electric poles caused by typhoon 'Gener' whose strongest sustained wind was merely 55kph near the center. They claimed that a tornado hit the area based on the account of some observers and the trace of its effect. An old man died on the spot after he fainted upon seeing the approaching tornado according to reports. Several residents were also injured and were immediately treated in the town's rural health center. |
